Hello, everyone!

I’m David Rickert, a cartoonist and graphic novelist whose most recent book, “Pizza, Pickles, and Apple Pie: The Stories Behind the Foods We Love” was published last year, and the follow-up, “Checkups, Shots, and Robots” will come out this November. Along with that, I create a bunch of comics for TeachersPayTeachers that teach language arts concepts to cool kids.

If you are receiving this and are a subscriber to my other newsletter, you might be a little confused. “Wait! What happened to all the teaching tips?” Don’t worry! As you might recall, I told you a few months ago in an email I was switching completely to SubStack. But I decided to keep the original mailing list focused on education and start this SubStack to focus more on my creative work. There will still be some teaching content - I am after all a teacher - but if you are not interested AT ALL in my creative work, feel free to unsubscribe. You’ll still get all the teaching stuff.

So what’s next? I’ll show you some preview pages from “Checkups, Shots, and Robots” and also do some tutorials on drawing hands as a warmup for my appearance at Cartoon Crossroads Columbus where I’ll be doing a panel on hands and gestures. So stay tuned!
